Instagram vs reality body

But lately, more and more social media users are electing to debunk unrealistic expectations about body image with "real" photos that emphasize self-love and acceptance.

That's exactly what Instagram user Sara Puhto set out to do when she shared side-by-side photos of herself from the back. The images look noticeably different, almost as if they were taken as "before" and "after" pictures. The catch? Sara took the photos just minutes apart from one another, in order to prove an important point. Nobody's body looks the same from all angles. Her post quickly caught a lot of attention, earning over 12, likes at the time of writing.

The photos, which were each labeled "Instagram" and "Real Life," drive home the point that what we see on social media isn't always a reflection of reality. She ended her message with an important reminder — one that all of us could benefit from hearing. Life isn't meant to be a competition on who can look the best and we should normalize not having to 'look perfect' all the time because it's a ridiculous concept. You are perfect the way you are.

Years ago I thought that if I had abs my tummy would be flat all the time. Our tummies bunch together, make rolls, our skin bends. We all have different bodies. Next time you feel this way remember that you are your own worst critic. Our bodies look different in different positions.

Your body is normal. Your body is worthy. You do not need to change yourself. You are absolutely amazing the way you are ——————————————.

We all have our own insecurities.

But we all have different factors that affect our weight. Such as height, muscle mass, breast size, time of day, water retention. Your weight does not equate to your health, or your beauty, or your worth. You should be proud of your body for all the things it allows you to do!

The way you look does not change who you are as a person. You are absolutely incredible the way you are now. Your uniqueness is your beauty. Thank you to my sister, ritapuhto for letting me use her in this photo!! Puhto is also quick to remind herfollowers that not everything you see online is real. This before-and-after proves an important point. Need more proof that the so-called "real" images you see on social media show anything but reality? Look no further than a before-and-after Instagram post from Monday by year-old psychologist and influencer Stacey Lee.

To demonstrate her point, Lee took two photos in a pair of high-waisted leggings. On the left, Lee showed herself with the leggings pulled up to cover most of her stomach. On the right, she pulled the leggings down to her hips. The takeaway?

Same woman, same leggings Lee tells Health she's been sharing Instagram versus reality and Photoshop versus non-Photoshop posts for a couple of years. Our body's job is to keep us alive. And our job is to give it the fuel and tools it needs to do so. Lee is a strong proponent of intuitive eating and self-love.

While she admitted to having insecurities in the past, she said it took a long time to overcome them. Bloopers and all. By Blake Bakkila July 18, Save Pin FB ellipsis More. Close Share options. All rights reserved.

Oh yes, somehow you always end up having to heave twice as much luggage as you wanted onto a train! I'd much rather have food and short nails than flowers. The right one is much better, even if it's McDonalds.

Brushing your teeth in the bath, where do you spit? Do I want to know the answer to this? I don't even understand this instagram shot.

This year-old fitness junkie is using her platform on Instagram to spread an important message: how things appear on social media can be very different than how they are in real life. While it may seem like our feeds are filled with filtered images of perfect washboard abs and flawless skin, Instagram user girlxfit wants everyone to know how different someone can look while flexing vs. She posted two side-by-side photos above, the one on the left is her flexing her abs, and the one on the right is her relaxing, in what she calls a " 30secondtransformation.

Watch as this gets downvoted. The camera doesn't lie. The subject, the pose and Photoshop lie. The camera is an inanimate object that uses physics to capture an image that is presented before it. The photographer and the subject must work in conjunction together to make the photograph either be realistic, or lie. You are right, however, people need to see these images and take to heart what they actually mean. Be happy with your body first. The camera will capture what you present it.

If you present it with a subject that is happy with itself, the camera will capture that. Rude much? As if you have never been hurt by a comment. It feels like these posts are just another convenient way to post copious amounts of selfies without coming off self absorbed and perhaps making your self seem more relatable. I don't know, my generation is addicted to attention, this post just feels slightly unauthentic because the girl is clearly beautiful in all of her photos. I would say this is precisely the point she's trying to make : Instagram is flooded with perfectly posed pictures, which can be nice but are also misleading, and can hurt anyone's self image.

But here, she's not making those perfect poses, and she is still quite as beautiful, no matter how many tiny flaws are revealed. Okay it's a bit narcissic, but the message is still quite nice. This comment is hidden. Click here to view. This is my life.
